The American Nightmare

The American Dream has become a nightmare.  Today I want to step to the side of our current study to go farther into detail the issues our Churches in this country are mixed with.  Just as Pergamos was mixed with worldly conduct so are we.  I want you to consider just a few points.

Look at the young people around you.  How outspoken are they about their faith?  When is the last time you heard a teen say Praise the Lord?  Do you think that the youth in our Churches look and act like Christ is the highest priority in their life?  Here is what I see and maybe I am too critical.  I see young people who are programmed to fashion and looks.  Little girls dress like women and boys are constantly being feminized.   The Funny thing is that many of the parents of the youth dress and look just like their kids.  Why does a grown woman in the Church want to look like she is nineteen?  Why are fathers in the Church so inactive?  Men seem so unconcerned about the Church and are not pastor material of their home.  God has called men to be the shepherd in the home.  However men in the Church do not seem to have a passion for souls.

Now think about this.  Is there any difference in the Church people you know and the non Church people you know when it comes to fashion, cars, homes, music they like, movies they watch, and TV shows they watch?  I see Church people and they look just like the world.  The idea is to have nice things and more things than anybody else.  In (1Pet 2:9) Peter says we are to be a “peculiar people.”  God expects us to be set apart.  Are we?

I believe our youth are no different than us.  We have sent them the message that it is ok to listen to secular music, laugh at the Gay guy on the TV comedy, watch the lesbian couple discuss their love for one another in the TV drama, and drive the nicest car on the block.  We are in trouble folks and God will Judge us if we don’t start repenting.  This past Saturday my family and I went trick or treating.  (Not my favorite thing but that is an entire different series of post).  While we were out we stopped at three different Churches and took part in there “trunk or treat”.  Now what I am about to say would make a lot of people in my town mad but God’s word is given to us for refuting and rebuking (II Tim 3:16).  When we went to First Methodist Church I saw something that troubled me a great deal.  Each family that was participating had little areas set-up.  One of them created a stage to look like a talk show.  Behind it was a wall that said “The Ellen Show”.  Come on man!  When I saw that I said right there in front of everybody “I can’t believe what I am seeing”.

You know Ellen is a likeable lady, and I hope someday she sees her lifestyle is sinful and she realizes the  need for Christ to save her.   I don’t see her as a disgusting human being like some people do.  You know God sees my sin and it makes him sick just like hers.  The difference is Christ has saved me and covered my sin.  Not because I am good or because I am a heterosexual, but because I was broken by the Gospel and led to Christ.   Now here is a Church that is presenting an outspoken lifestyle that is contrary to the nature of God’s creation for fun!  Am I missing something?  You know the saying is when in Rome do as the Romans do.  Well this presentation at the Church reminded me of Romans chapter 1.  Sin cannot be glorified and God be honored.  When Daniel was in bondage in the Kings court he would not eat the Kings meat or drink the wine because it violated the laws of God.  Esther also faced the same temptation when she was taken into the Kings palace and prepared for the King. She like Daniel would not compromise and God rewarded them.  What good came from this stage?  Please understand I am not attacking Methodist or any particular group.  I am just stating the truth.  Here is something to consider.  There were probably 2000 people in that area that night.  How many saw it?  What message did it send?  Is it a message Christ sent?

We have to start being honest with God.  He knows our faults and he knows we are slowly fading away from him as a Church.  In each one of the Churches mentioned in Revelation 2 and 3 he offers them repentance.   This is what we need to do before we lose any more souls to the world.  Chirst is the solution and his love never ends!
